One-Size Cloth Diapers
Written by Diaper Diva
I cannot believe I almost forgot my beloved One-Size diapers!! Nearly all cloth diapering styles have a one-size option. These Can fall into a few different categories. They’re convenient & cost-effective (you buy one set for all of diaper-hood). If you have more than one child in cloth, they can use the same diapers! Diaper boy & girl have been using the same dipes for well over a year now (it was pretty funny putting my 20 month old & 2 week old to bed in matching diapers) & it has been wonderful! No sorting by size when I’m folding. They’re all the same thing, so it doesn’t matter which dresser it goes in.
I have been skeptical of One-Size AIO & Pocket diapers in the past, however (this is from reading & not experience, mind you), It seems many newer brands really do have PUL that can withstand some abuse & might make it through more than one kid before they lose effectiveness. If you have experience here, please do let us know! Another thing I’ve avoided in the past due to life-expectancy is aplix (like velcro). However, if you have a sewing machine or know someone who does, this is easy & inexpensive to fix.
The downside to one-size cloth diapers is the bulk. There’s no way around it. Particularly for the newborn. Most are listed saying 10lbs-30lbs. I used my Mother-Ease One-size on diaper girl when she was 8lbs & am still using them on almost 35lb diaper boy. They were HUGE on diaper girl at 8lbs (but worked & she seemed perfectly content in them & no her legs did not develop bowed out & she walked & crawled at normal milestone ages) and are just barely starting to get snug on diaper boy. But they have big booty syndrome for sure. There is no chance I can get diaper girl in a pair of non-stretchy pants in her “age size”. If I do manage to squeeze her into them, they look crazy weird & she can’t sit comfortably. For some, this is a deal-breaker. I did care a little at first, but over time, I just stopped. So my kids have big butts. So what? It’s just a diaper. Later if my daughter ever complains about having a large rump, I’ll just show her some baby pictures, surely it will never be THAT big! So if you can look beyond the vanity, one-size is the way to go if you ask me.
