Great Bible Site

No, this has nothing to do with cloth diapers… I know… but my husband just launched a site that I wanted to share with everyone. The site is designed to help people understand different Bible translations. With so many English versions of the Bible, lots of people wonder what is the best Bible for them to use. Well, now this site offers you the chance to read and see what all the differences are between Bible versions. Again, while it isn’t diaper related, I wanted to share it because my husband worked really hard on it and I love him. So, go check out www.Best-Bible.org.

Diapers Are Not Meant to be Toilets

I recently found a great article discussing the debate between cloth & disposable.

You really should read the entire article, but I found one quote particularly worth mention:

We live in a fast-paced society where people don’t want to deal with the `yuck’ factor,” adds Smithson. “Parents look at a diaper as a container that doesn’t leak and can be left on for eight hours, instead of looking at it as clothing worn on the most sensitive parts of the body. Shouldn’t we be changing babies when they wet?” Adds Erica Froese, owner of Mother-Ease Diapers, “A diaper is not meant to be used as a toilet.”

Again, the idea surfaces, that while baby may feel dry in a disposable, there’s urine in there (I’m assuming you’d change the baby if there’s more than urine). When I was battling Diaper Boy’s rash issues, I found very frequent changes to be helpful (even in disposable), but the cost & environmental impact of disposables becomes considerably higher when you change as the baby wets. When I switched to cloth I realized that he actually peed about every 30-45 min. (more or less depending on how much drinking was going on of course). I often would leave him in a disposable for 2hrs & thought after 2hrs that perhaps I was “wasting the diaper” b/c it wasn’t “full”. Now having the liberty of frequent changes in cloth, I really struggle using disposables. I basically have to choose between my baby’s skin & my budget restrictions/the landfill issues.

The Great Cloth Diaper Hunt!

Written by Diaper Diva

This is a tad late, as it started Nov.1, but it’s not TOO late! Twice a year there is an online scavenger hunt. You get a list of a bunch of WHAM cloth diaper sites & on each one there is a diaper icon for you to click. Every day there is some type of prize, along with lots of grand prizes & “extreme” prizes depending on how many icons you find. I REALLY want to participate & have tried a bit, but i’m terrible at scavenger hunts (i don’t have a good eye for detail & I’m terrible at riddles). It’s taking WAY too much time, so I’ve hung my hat. But you should give it a go! C’mon let me live vicariously (which means you have to post comments on your hunt status!!).

Visit diaperdecisions.com for details (I think they’re having server issues b/c the page is down periodically, but have patience grasshopper, it will return)

My Favorite Cloth Diaper Sites

It can be daunting to sift through all the sites about cloth diapering. There are countless sites, some good, some bad, some so ugly so I couldn’t stay long enough to find out if they’re good or bad. While I certainly hope I fall into the (cute) good category, I realize that if you’re a serious searcher, you’re going to need a little more. Here are places I like to frequent. Some to find answers to specific questions, some to peruse for information I didn’t even know I needed & others well…because the women are too funny & i like to live vicariously through their diaper shopping obsessions (i.e. drool over their stash until I have to remind myself that one major reason I cloth diaper is to save $$).

The Diaper Hyena
: A Great starting place (ok, after here of course!)
The Hyena Cart: A great place to buy things from home-based businesses (WAHM=work at home mom)
The Diaper Pin Reviews : This site has TONS of info, but it can be a tad overwhelming…I usually use it for reviews (they have a very active forum as well).
Diaper Swappers : Fabulous “for sale or trade” resource, great for trouble-shooting advice & super fun forums (these are the hilarious ladies i was telling you about. It’s like AA for diaper shop-a-holics in there…an AA with a bar in the back of the room anyway).
Miracle Diapers : An amazing nonprofit that donates cloth diapers to those who can’t afford the investment.

Remember, when you’re learning forums are your friend. It takes a little time to find your bearings, but it’s worth the effort. They’re great places not only for information but great deals on used diapers & even opportunity to help WAHM’s test new products! Don’t be scared. Introduce yourself! Cloth diapering mommas LOVE to share what they know!
